Q: Do you offer a kennel service while my pets are traveling?
A: We do not offer a kennel service as we like to concentrate on the pet transport. We understand that most pet owners would like to use the kennel of their choice. Where necessary, we can recommend a kennel from the Pet Boarding Association.

Q: Where will my pet be located in the aircraft?
A: Certain areas of the cargo hold, which are situated below the passenger sections, are reserved specifically for pets. These holds are heated pressurized and insulated.

Q: Will the flight stress my pets?
A: More than a million pets fly safely worldwide every year and are well cared for. It is the captain’s responsibility to know whether or not animals travel on board and that certain procedures are adhered to. All animals transported are checked and watered on stopovers. We, at Animal Travel Agency have flown pets all over the world, and have collected many pets arriving in South Africa from various destinations around the world on a daily basis, and can say that it has been our observation that pets have all been quite happy and pleased to see a friendly face and their owners again and have suffered no undue stress due to the journey.

Q: Will my pet be comfortable in his pet travel container?
A: There are two types of pet travel containers, wooden and plastic. We ensure that the pet travel container is big enough for your pet to be able to move freely. IATA stipulates that your pet must be able to stand and turn around freely inside the travel container.

Q: Will my pets be tranquilised before they travel?
A: This is done only on request if required we prefer you to consult with your local veterinarian.

Q: When will my pet be collected?
A: We will confirm with you, in advance, as to the date and time that your travelling pets will be collected – this is normally a few hours before a flight.

Q: Should I feed my pet before he is collected?
A: No, there should be no feeding for at least 8 hours prior to collection, to avoid your pets from soiling their travel containers. You may, however, give your pets water.
